Picnic Park alongside the railway is a nice spot to eat food from DeliLicious too, the village is a lovely to amble around. You could also eat at Nancy Kingsbury Park on Anzac Parade next to the Police Station, super close to Morvern Valley.

Feel welcome to walk into the 2 small historical cemetery’s for a visit – one is located to the rear of the Anglican Sandstone Church (Look here for the graves of Samuel and Emily Tooth – the original owners of Morvern Valley they were first settlers of Bundanoon which is why the farm is in THE perfect position).  The other cemetery is clearly visible beside the Uniting Wooden church – both in Church st – at the top of our lane, on your route to or from the village.

Sunnataram Forest Buddhist Monastery  –  FREE SUNDAY LUNCH at 11.am sharp

Highly recommended for the family, offer some food as a donation, or some left over building supplies, a tool you may no longer need, or just help out washing up after your delicious lunch, or sweep the veranda – there is absolutely no charge for your authentic vegetarian Thai meal.

Fantastic, interesting, awe-inspiring & educational place to visit. It’s open from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. This place has a wonderful calming aura and is a very good place to visit with children. Monks are very happy to speak to you about Buddhism (don’t worry only if you wish – they will not approach you at all). A few monks have taken the vow of silence so if one doesn’t talk back, don’t get offended. Do not touch a monk, or offer money in your hand – place it somewhere in front of them – women especially.

You can just walk around the large property looking into the temple and at the beautifully hand carved huge Pagoda, which was made by the monks themselves. It was made from ‘Bundanoon Sandstone’ whose sandstone was specifically used in building Sydney’s Town Hall and also the Queen Victoria Building in the 1800’s.

The views are stunning … all of the way down to Sussex Inlet. Peacocks roaming, & sometimes there is a wombat too walking around. Plants for sale. Very interesting are all the different styles of life-size Buddha images from all the different countries in South East Asia and beyond.

Meditation times for the public held weekly. They are used to public visiting and often hold retreats and offer accommodation, so don’t hesitate to visit this wonderful spiritual place.

(You could combine a visit here with a Sunday country drive to Tallong –  looking for Kangaroos and at the different types of vegetation along the route, maybe buy ice creams at Tallong’s general store, or driving to see Long Point Lookout or Badgerys Lookout at Tallong – clearly marked). You could, if you didn’t eat at the monastery, stop for lunch at Wingello General Store – the village before Tallong – our recommendation is the all day Big Breakfast! A nice 2.5 hr Sunday country outing at very little cost at all! Lovely rural farm views.

Directions :  At the top of Our Gullies Rd – turn left into Church then an immediate right turn into Anzac pde & follow the signs that say Penrose. This is Penrose Rd. You can drive along this same road all the way through the southern villages. of the Southern Highlands to Tallong Village so you cannot get lost.

Well before you reach Penrose you will see on your left Teudts rd. Turn left & follow about 1km down and you will be at the monastery.

This area of Bundanoon was terribly, terribly effected during the 2020 Dec/Jan Bushfires as was the Monastery, sadly many parts burnt to the ground. Wingello village lost 50 buildings too.
